Crockpot Chicken Thighs Recipe Tips and Tricks
This slow cooker chicken thigh recipe is very versatile, allowing you to customize it to your taste. The chicken thighs are super quick to prep, and the delicious garlic, lemon, butter, and herb sauce is to die for! Here are a few tips to make it even better!
- If you have time, season and brown the chicken thighs in a skillet before transferring them to the Crockpot. The Maillard reaction on the meat will build up a nice flavor when simmering in the Crockpot later.
- If you want to give your slow-cooked chicken thighs a zesty touch to brighten the flavor, add a dash of fresh lemon juice at the end of cooking time.
- Make sure to use skinless chicken thighs. Chicken skin contains fat that will make the crockpot dish too greasy, especially when we use butter in the sauce. If you’re not fond of chicken thighs, go for skinless chicken breasts instead–They are lean and shred easily after being slow-cooked!
- Shredding chicken meat is also a great option. Remove the cooked chicken thighs from the crockpot and shred them on a cutting board after removing the bone. Add chicken back to the crockpot and mix with the sauce to combine and reheat quickly before serving the chicken.
- If you’re not a lemon fan, use half a lemon juice instead.

My husband made this recipe once, now I own it. I've made it many times and never change the recipe. It's a favorite delicious and easy dish. Comes out perfectly tender and flavorful as written in 3 hours on high. As suggested, I always brown the chicken first.

I rarely comment on these things but I use this recipe so frequently how could I not. I highly recommend. It’s a classic in our home. We prefer a thicker sauce/gravy so I always thicken with flour. Love the lemony flavor
